CLOSE TO HOME
Close to Home is a service project that will provide welcome bags to individuals and families who have been resettled in Tallahassee after being displaced from their homes due to social/economic unrest or war. Welcome bags will contain personal care and hygiene items as well as new blankets, books for children and transportation cards for adults. Project Close To Home is being undertaken as the result of a Disney "Be Inspired" Citizenship grant awarded on behalf of the Walt Disney Company and Youth Service America.

Project 1. Medical & Hygiene Aid
Through the Medical & Hygiene Aid project, we will be collecting money to purchase medical and hygiene items that can be sent to those in need locally, nationally, and internationally. Good health is not only essential to prosperity, but a very basic right for all.
Project 2. Displaced Family Aid
Few of us can truly imagine what it feels like to be forced to leave your home. The Displaced Family Aid project will work to provide essentials to families who have been displaced due to war, violence, or natural disasters. We will be collecting funds to purchase gift cards, toys, children's books, hygiene items, and children's blankets. The goal is for each child to receive a welcome bag when they arrive to their new location in an effort to help them settle in a little faster. Each bag will contain a new toy, book, and blanket to help children feel a little more secure. Adults will receive a bag with personal hygiene items for themselves and their family as well as a gift card they can use to purchase food, clothing, and other necessities.
Project 3. Food Aid
In a world that already produces more than 1 ½ times enough food to feed everyone on the planet, there is no reason people are going hungry. Through the Food Aid project, we will work to collect monetary donations in an effort to purchase healthy food for those in need. The issue of food insecurity is not due to scarcity, and with your help, we can help make sure that no person goes hungry! When you provide a meal for someone in need, you are also helping to ensure good health and their ability to focus and perform well in school and on the job. When you provide a meal for someone in need, you are enabling them to provide a better future for themselves and their family. ...Won't you help!
